Over the past year, the Wotton-under-Edge community and its surrounding villages have shown what’s possible when people come together with purpose. In gardens, along streams, in meeting halls, and across our local landscape, individuals of all ages have stepped up to protect the environment, support wildlife, and take meaningful action on climate change.
From digging and planting to learning and leading, it’s been a year full of hope, connection, and impact. Our aim is building not just a more resilient Wotton, but a greener, fairer future for generations to come.
A Year in Review: What We’ve Achieved Together
Over 12,000 Trees and Hedges Planted Since launching in 2019, Wotton Area CAN has planted more than 12,000 trees and hedges—over 3,000 in the past three seasons alone—boosting local biodiversity and capturing carbon.
Nature Thriving in Community Spaces Our tree nursery at Knapp Road allotments, along with wildflower areas at Holywell Leaze and Marchesi Walk, are flourishing thanks to the care and dedication of local supporters.
Safeguarding Our Streams Volunteer teams have monitored water quality across local streams, identifying and tackling pollution to protect these vital ecosystems.
Nature Education for Families Young children and their families joined us at ‘Wildlife Watch’ events, learning about the natural world through fun, hands-on exploration.
Reducing Waste Together In collaboration with local businesses, we've spotlighted ways to cut down on single-use plastics and reduce waste in everyday life.
Towards 100% Clean, Fair Energy We’ve engaged with individuals, groups, and experts who share our vision of clean, affordable energy for all—because no one should have to choose between warmth and well-being.
Stronger Through Collaboration Partnerships with councils, schools, and local volunteer organisations have amplified our efforts and built a strong foundation of community-led climate action.
Inspiring Events and New Faces Chipping Hall has been filled with residents eager to hear from guest speakers, while our core team has welcomed new volunteers who bring fresh energy and expertise.
